Salma Dam—the Afghan-India Friendship Dam

Salma Dam, officially the Afghan-India Friendship Dam, is a hydroelectric and irrigation dam project located on the Hari River in Chishti Sharif District of Herat Province in western Afghanistan. The dam was opened on 4 June 2016 by Indian Prime Minister and Afghan President. The Afghan cabinet renamed the Salma Dam to the Afghan-India Friendship Dam in a move to strengthen relations between the two countries.

In addition to generating hydropower, Salma is also an irrigation project that is located 165 km east of the town of Herat. It has an earth rockfill embankment dam, which impounds the Hari Rud River, creating a 433,999 acre-feet reservoir. The reservoir will be used to help irrigate 75,000 hectares of farmland, provide water supply and other benefits to Afghanistan.

Hollow threaded bar, an advanced anchoring method, is regarded as a common product for hydroelectric projects today. In hydroelectric projects, hollow threaded bar is usually applied for supporting and protecting the stability of surrounding rocks as well as to make radial reinforcement and slope stabilization. By more and more practices, hollow threaded bar is proven to be an ideal, effective and environmental solution for hydroelectric projects.
